W hile the Harper government has been widely criticized for its stance on climate change, it has not questioned the science behind international negotiations. And, notably, the government signed the agreement negotiated at the Copenhagen conference and has submitted its emission reduction targets as required. Today, however, in a letter to La Presse (which he says was not seen by the PMO), ex-foreign minister Gilles Bernier defends the government's approach from the point of view of a "skeptic."

Awami League lawmaker MA Latif from Chittagong-10 (Patenga) constituency allegedly misbehaved again with an on duty policeman early hours yesterday while placing floral wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in Chittagong. Sources said Latif along with some party activists arrived at the Shaheed Minar around 12:30am and entered through the exit. The law enforcement agencies ignored it.

Drought and arid summers remain a danger for Turkey due to the effects of global warming despite recent rainfall, according to academics. Speaking to Today's Zaman yesterday, Ecmel Arlat from Ege University's geography department said to expect summer temperatures above seasonal norms as well as a dry summer. Erlat said elements of climate such as heat and precipitation tended to change from year to year, based on changes that occur in the atmosphere.
